Saturday at Comfest, 2009

By teamtim

SaturdayHighlights for Saturday; the crescendo of Comfest. Click on the image for full size. Details and links to the bands after the jump.

The Electric Grandmother
11:30AM, Solar stage
Sitcom-core. Need I say more?

The Vague
12PM, Gazebo stage
When you don’t complain about paying cover at the Treehouse for so many years, you get a spot on the list.

The Kyle Sowashes
12:40PM, Offramp stage
The angst is ripe and the licks are raw. But seriously folks…really solid pop-rock here.

Bum Wealthy
2:45PM, Bozo stage
If George Clinton was white, and I mean really really white, this is what you’d get.

Hotel Eden
3:40PM, Offramp
Former DJ from The Lab Rats. The lyrics are a little sickly sweet, but the melodies are killer.

Flotation Walls
4:20PM, Offramp stage
BEST COLUMBUS BAND EVER.

Colin Gawel & the Lonely Bones

4:35PM, Gazebo stage
Former frontman of Watershed (seriously? you haven’t heard?) keeps it going. Hopefully, we won’t have to beg for covers.

The Receiver
5:10PM, Offramp stage
Two brothers (recently, with great backing instrumentals) warm you up for the crescendo of Comfest with genius melody and heartbreaking vocals.

Ghost Shirt
5:35PM, Gazebo stage
The Treehouse turns out (and turns down) some amazing work.

Bygones
6:50PM, Offramp stage
“Pound-for-pound the most innate and lyrical (translation: best) rock guitarist in the city.” –Jerry Dannemiller, The Other Paper.

Time & Temperature

7:10PM, Solar stage
1. You drank all day: You’ll cry.
2. You’re sober with a loved one: You’ll cry.
3. You’re sober and alone: You’ll cry.
Choose one: same result. It’s that good.

Willie Phoenix Band
7:55PM, Bozo stage.
There are very few people that are playing in the same clubs that have their rock posters on the wall. Worth it

Donna Mogavero Band
8:10PM, Gazebo stage
Anyone influencing Columbus music as hard and for as long (that’s what she said) deserves the credit.

The Lindsay
9:20PM, Offramp stage
Composing unease and fear through sociality.

Titonton & the Mysterious They
10:05PM, Bozo stage
When a DJ, known for instrumental samples, invites live musicians to the stage, something’s bound to go wrong. But that’s good.

Couch Forts
10:10PM, Solar stage
The best choice for the end of the night if you do/can/want to appreciate folk and the true spirit of Comfest, you’ll end your night here. (I’ve seen them more than any other band on the list)

Envelope
10:10PM, Live Arts stage
This is the true hight of Comfest. All the kids that know better will be there. (the Live Arts stage sucks)

The block of hotel eden, flotation walls, and the receiver is not something you want to miss.

Thanks Tim. That’s very nice. It’s going to be a good Comfest. You’re good for the town and you know it.

  3. Mike Brown Says:

Could you please rename this article to “I hate jazz”?

    Thanks!
