I’ve taken the plunge and committed to riding 50 miles in Pelotonia 2009.
By the end of the day, August 28 (only 46 days away), I will have riden 50 miles on my one-speed (seen above), and have raised (over?) $1000 for cancer research.
This is my shameless solicitation for sponsorship. But, like all good sponsorships, I’m offering something in return! I’ll be having a shirt printed with all the people (or companies) that contribute money to my ride. The larger your donation, the larger your name (or logo, or message) on my shirt.
First come, first served.
When you donate, just hit me up and let me know what and where you want on the shirt.
We’re thick into it now, so you have no excuse for not knowing everything that there is to know about summer time.

The Awesome Foundation is a new philanthropic organization seeking to promote awesomeness.
“Awesomeness is more the product of a creator’s passion than the prospect of audience or profit. Awesome creations are novel and non-obvious, evoking surprise and delight. Invariably, something about them perfectly reflects the essence of the medium, moment, or method of creation. Awesomeness challenges and inspires.”
They’re giving away thousands of dollars a month to awesome projects.
Convincing people to make time to come out to a contemporary art exhibition has a couple of tracts:
This artist is significant.
This is a rare opportunity to see this artist’s work.
This artist influences other artists.
These “one-liners” fit easily into ad copy, Twitter, press release headlines, and elevator speeches. The problem is, that they don’t speak to an audience that, normally, doesn’t make time to culture themselves beyond a new film or the new restaurant in their city.
There’s an argument for challenging, segmented, explanatory bits. Not: “this is why you should care,” instead: “this is what this art does.”
Comfest and Independence (but not Independent’s) Day are done and now we enter into the dog days of summer. Ugh.
